Topic: The Illusion of Privacy: Identity Theft Education and Protection in the Digital Age
Speaker: Pfc. Andre Lingham
About Our Event: Identity Theft is one of the fastest growing crimes in America and is having a huge effect on citizens. A 2017 ID Theft study found that $16 billion was stolen from 15.4 million U.S. consumers in 2016. Close to 100 million additional Americans have their personal and business identifying information at risk of ID Theft each year when records maintained in government and corporate databases are lost or stolen through data breaches. These alarming statistics demonstrate ID Theft may be the most frequent, costly and pervasive crime in the U.S. The presentation will focus on the different types of Identity Theft, Data Breaches and the Dark Web.
