The training also highlights cognitive disruptions associated with grief, such as memory loss and mental fog. Practical strategies for coping and intervention will be discussed, including guidance on when to refer individuals to medical or mental health professionals.

Learning Objectives (Concise & Training Overview)

    • Differentiate Grief Types: Distinguish between normal grief, complicated grief, and depression using key emotional, behavioral, and physical indicators.
    • Assess Biopsychological Effects: Analyze how grief affects the body (immune, cardiovascular, digestive) and cognitive functioning (e.g., memory, “grief brain”).
    • Apply Coping Strategies: Use evidence-based strategies to support grieving individuals and identify when professional referral is needed.

Most families don’t have a plan — they have a crisis waiting to happen.

As professionals serving older adults and their families, we see it every day. The hard conversations are often delayed until a medical emergency, a sudden decline, or a financial disruption forces action.

That’s why I’m hosting our next Silver Moves Living: Real Talk on Aging session on March 10th from 11:00 AM–12:30 PM at East Columbia Library.

This month’s topic — “The 3-Legged Stool to Planning: Wills vs. Trusts, Financial & Health Care Planning” — brings together an Elder Law Attorney, Financial Advisor, and Geriatric Care Manager to provide coordinated, practical guidance.

If you serve seniors or adult children navigating these decisions, I would greatly appreciate you sharing the attached flyer with your clients or community.

Together, we can help families plan with clarity — not panic.

We're excited to join the Coalition of Geriatric Services and connect with this incredible community of professionals dedicated to supporting seniors in Howard County.

Next Day Access of Columbia specializes in home accessibility solutions that help older adults age in place safely and independently. We provide stairlifts, wheelchair ramps, grab bars, bathroom modifications, and comprehensive home safety assessments - all designed to keep seniors secure and comfortable in the homes they love.

What makes our work different is that it's deeply personal. I spent eight years watching my father navigate life in a wheelchair due to a peripheral neuropathy disease, which taught me what families truly need during these challenging transitions. As a Certified Aging in Place Specialist (CAPS), I'm committed to treating every client the way I would want my own father treated - with dignity, empathy, and genuine care.

We're based right here in Columbia, serving Howard, Baltimore, and Anne Arundel Counties. We pride ourselves on fast response times, free home assessments, and helping families understand their options and find the right mobility solutions - without the runaround, without the surprises, and without treating them like a transaction.

I look forward to collaborating with fellow COGS members, learning from this community, and being a trusted resource when your clients need accessibility solutions. Please don't hesitate to reach out - I'm always happy to discuss how we can support the seniors you serve.
