About Our Speaker:
Jeannie Finnegan is a singer and guitarist, therapeutic music consultant, and guest speaker with her company Melodies & Memories. She provides therapeutic music to residents of assisted living and nursing facilities in Howard, Montgomery, and Baltimore counties, including our residents of Cedar Place here at Vantage House. She has a professional background in long-term care administration and hospice, as well as music performance. She performed with the Choral Arts Society of Washington as well as the University of Maryland chorus, and provides entertainment to seniors through her concerts and sing-alongs. As a guest speaker, she gives presentations to facilities, family councils, residents, and facility staff to promote meaningful music as a therapeutic tool and for quality of life. She has consulted with top researchers in the field of neuroscience regarding the "brain-music" connection, and is currently writing a book about her experiences with therapeutic music and its remarkable benefits, even for those with significant memory or cognitive impairment. Her interactive presentation is designed to inform and inspire, as she discusses the power of music to evoke memories and emotions, and to enhance communication, family visits, and quality of life.
