The COGS Board Wants YOU!

The COGS Board of Directors is looking for a few good men and women.

If you’re reading this, you’re probably already a member of COGS or an employee of a COGS member organization. We all know that, as the newsletter masthead says, COGS members are “Professionals Working Together To Improve The Lives Of Older Adults” and “Making Howard County A Better Place For Older Adults.” That’s what we all do, every day.

But if you are the type of person whose commitment to improving the lives of older adults extends beyond the 9-to-5 workday, we’d like you to consider running for an open seat on the COGS the Board of Directors. The COGS Board of Directors (“Board”) has at least 12 and no more than 17 members, including at least one “older adult representative” from the community. Board committees include Program, Legislative, Membership, Executive and Board Development. The Board meets once a month, usually the first Thursday morning, for an hour and a half. Committees set their own schedule. Some meet every other month, but most meet less frequently.

Much of the most rewarding work of COGS is done at the Committee level. If you have a talent for recruiting speakers and planning educational programs, or if you want to be involved in planning our fundraising activities, such as the annual Casino Night benefit or “Food on the Fifteenth,” or if you want to put forth new ideas on how COGS can better serve the adults of our community, this is the opportunity you’ve been waiting for. Volunteer now.

The next election will be at the general membership meeting in September. Due to term limits and other factors, we expect there will be between three and five open seats this year.
